Who Will Join Shaheen Afridi as the New-Ball Bowler in World Cup? Babar Azam Provides Insights
Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, has discussed the uncertainty surrounding the choice of a new-ball partner for Shaheen Shah Afridi in the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.
During the press conference before the team's departure, Babar acknowledged the void created by the absence of Naseem Shah and the unique advantage that Shaheen and Naseem's partnership brought to the team.
"We will certainly miss Naseem Shah as the combination of Shaheen [Afridi] and Naseem bowling together provided us with a distinct advantage. Selecting his replacement was not an easy task, but we gathered input from [chief selector] Inzamam ul Haq and collectively decided to go with Hasan Ali due to his valuable experience, having played in previous World Cups," Babar explained.
However, Babar refrained from revealing the name of the player who would be entrusted with the responsibility of sharing the new-ball duties, emphasizing the team's commitment to keeping their strategic plans confidential at this stage.
I'm unable to provide details on our choice for the new-ball or old-ball bowler as we're not in a position to disclose our strategies at this point. Currently, we haven't finalized any specific plans. We'll gain a better understanding when we arrive in India and assess the conditions," he elaborated.
With a goal to make a strong start in the upcoming major tournament, Pakistan is scheduled to depart for India tonight. They are slated to play their initial warm-up match against New Zealand on Friday as part of their preparations.
